We, Linda and Gert Jan (Gianni), welcome you to our own piece of Earth and hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.
Ecolodge Selvitelle is part of a small Azienda Agricola, which originally focused on olive oil production. Based on our vision towards sustainability and natural farming, in 2017 we started introducing organic farming based on permaculture principles. This focuses on restoring ecosystems naturally. However, this is a multi-year process, so you could say that Selvitelle will never really be “finished” in the coming years.

Meeting, Inspiring and Experiencing Nature are three keywords within that which we want to share with our guests. We are usually busy taking care of the gardens and the land, among other things. But do not hesitate to approach us. You will usually find us outside on the land, around the gardens or in the outdoor kitchen. We are always happy to make time for a chat or a drink.

House rules Selvitelle;

As our current society is already full of over-regulation, at Selvitelle we try to limit it to a number of natural rules of good behavior.

Respect for nature and the environment.

• Do not leave any waste in nature.
• Do not cause unnecessary damage.
• Be aware that you live in the midst of an unspoiled nature with a variety of animals. Depending on the season, wild boars can migrate across the country. Keep a safe distance, especially when young pigs are present.
• Keep in mind that you may encounter snakes. The black snakes are harmless and usually flee as soon as they see you. But you can also meet less innocent snakes. Some tips to avoid unwanted encounters;
  Wear closed shoes when you are in high grass/vegetation.
  In case of such activities, take a long stick with you to move the vegetation in front of you.
  Do not reach blindly into bushes or stacks of wood.

No smoking

• Smoking is not allowed in the apartments.
• If you smoke outside, make sure that you do not throw burning cigarette butts into the often dry environment. There is a risk of fire.

Respect for each other’s properties.

• We have built Selvitelle literally with our own hands and worked hard to create a place that we want to share with others. We expect our guests to, handle everything that is at their disposal, with care.

Respect for each other’s privacy

We created Selvitelle as a place to escape from the daily hectic and find inner peace. As much as we like to welcome guests into our living space, we too value a certain amount of privacy. This means that our private home and kitchen are not standard common areas. These are only accessible for booked common activities, such as socal dining.

The Eco element;

Our vision is to create a place on earth where residents and guests live in the right balance with the natural environment, which produces abundantly healthy, edible good. By restoring biodiversity, we aim to develop an ecosystem that maintains itself organically without the use of artificial fertilizers, pesticides or crop protection products.

You will stay on an estate where public utilities are less obvious than you are probably used to at home. We therefore ask you to take the time to take note of a number of guidelines at Selvitelle.

Solar Energy;
The hot water supply in your accommodation runs entirely on solar energy and is equipped with a 300 liter buffer tank for both apartments. Depending on the season, this installation produces enough hot water for daily needs. In less sunny periods it is advised to be more economical.

The electricity at Selvitelle is largely generated by our own Solar installation and partly stored for the night-time electricity needs. As electricity is generated during the day, we ask you to use power guzzlers such as washing machines, air conditioning, etc. only during the day.

Water;
The tap water comes from the springs of the mountains of Monte Cervati and is very drinkable.
During heat periods, however, the municipality may reduce the amount of water during the day. For these situations we are equipped with a 1000 litre buffer tank. Although this is the same water, we recommend not to drink it and to use bottled water during these periods.
We will inform you in good time when these situations occur.

Waste water;
Because of its location, Eco Lodge Selvitelle is not connected to a public sewerage system, but has its own installation where the waste water is brought back into nature. The same applies to the solids that, after a long fermentation process, return to nature.
From this point of view, we ask you not to throw anything other than the necessary toilet paper into the toilet. In order to keep the use of toilet paper as minimal as possible, the accommodations have a bidet, for an optimal personal hygiene.

Waste separation;
Green waste; uncooked residues of vegetables, fruit, coffee and tea grounds, eggshells, etc. are composted at Selvitelle into organic fertilizer. When you want the waste bin to be emptied, you can put it outside next to the door.
Glass; should be separated and can be thrown into the yellow container on the parking.
Plastics; and also light metals like foodcans  should be separated in the appropriate container. (on the right from the yellow container)
Residual waste; food waste and all other unnamed items must be deposited in a plastic bag in the appropriate container. (on the left of the yellow container)

Bath and bed linen, washing and ironing;

The rental price of the apartments includes bed linen, towels, tea towels and dish towels The bed linen is changed every week (more often on request*). Towels, tea towels and dishcloths are changed twice a week. (More often on request**)

If you want to do your own laundry, you can use a washing machine and a dryer. (Although using the drying rack in summer is faster and more ecological!) the laundry room is located on the outside of the apartment building.

Please note that bath and bed linen of Selvitelle may not be washed!

Our animals;

Our dogs (and cats) live freely on our premises, warning of unwanted visitors but also fond of guests’ presence. They are used to new guests staying there each time. They also know they have no access to the appartments. A simple and clear No command is often enough to stop them from going anywhere they are not allowed.

• It is not allowed to let our animals into the apartments.

If you don’t like it that the dogs are near you, please let us know, we will pay extra attention to that.

We also ask you; not to feed our animals!

We strongly advise you not to leave personal belongings e.g. shoes etc. outside. They could be stolen overnight by Hassan, and we can not guarantee that it will be found back.

Luna, the Rottweiler, is a very approachable and socialised dog who loves to play and will no doubt try to tempt you into playing. Given her age and physical condition, this is no longer wise. Ignoring is the best tactic. Be aware that intense play in high temperatures can also be fatal for a dog.

Hassan, the white shepherd dog (Maremmano) is a type of asylum seeker who decided to live with us. He is very shy especially towards men. (possibly traumatised) and will actually always stay at a distance. But he will probably bark at you for the first few days.

Google, the little terrier, turns out to be everyone’s darling every time. Although she is always cheerful, she is also the one who causes the most “terror” when unwanted visitors such as wild boars enter the estate. This can sometimes cause some noise at night. If this bothers you please let us know so we can keep her inside.

Amenities nearby;

About 5 minutes’ drive from Selvitelle is the village of Cicerale, with a pharmacy, post office, butcher, a small supermarket and two bars. On Fridays, there is a small local market here offering mainly fruit and vegetables. To be honest, that is also the only day when there is some liveliness on the streets then.
Also bear in mind that almost most shops close at noon between about 12:30 and 16:00.

In about 15 minutes you are in Agropoli, a somewhat larger coastal town, with historic centre, boulevard with restaurants, town square where you can find several bars and restaurants and shops. You will also find larger supermarkets (as Lidl and Eurospin), several pharmacies, a first-aid post, dentists and artisanal bakers and butchers in Agropoli. There is a large weekly market every Thursday. (until 13:00) That market can be found right at the bottom of the exit at “Agropoli Sud”.

Going south, you’ll find the village of Omignano Scalo at 10 car minutes. Here, too, you will find a well-stocked supermarket (PAM) right below the post office. Also you will find a good pizzeria, Scostumata,  in this livelier village. Right next to it there is a nice lounge and cocktail bar, Shabby, which regularly features live music. Just before driving into Omignano you will find Bar Gelateria Nazionale. A pleasant place where you get delicious ice cream, but also for a quick coffee with a treat.

A nice weekly market can be found on Fridays in Casalvelino, a coastal village about 20 minutes away by car. There are also several bars, restaurants and ice cream parlours around the harbour.
